Things that deserve the stink-eye:

my iPhone made me into an avatar.

At some point, an iPhone Apple CarPlay update meant my vehicle navigation now features this tiny and instantly amusing vehicle on my dashboard display and it consistently triggers a switch in my imagination so now any road-trip is ALSO A VIDEO GAME and thus I anticipate/conjure various (fun) characters and or obstacles to emerge like MARIO & LUIGI or a YETI (to eat my avatar) or a LAVA PIT or a PORTAL (teleportation wishful-thinking) and yes, I suppose this confirms I am still a child, also just so you know I'm a tad preoccupied on the road these days. Dear friends, travel safe.

  2. You're in GMaps when this happens? I mean it doesn't just do this willy nilly, does it?

    1. No, it's an iPhone thing and the Apple Car Play and only in one particular vehicle, so like many apps, who know what's been toggled on or off? I was hoping someone else experienced this and might offer some insight. But no worries...it's silly and I just couldn't resist writing about it.

  3. Another useless use for an iphone.

    1. Ha, I'm enjoying your curmudgeonly neo-Luddite comment...can relate sometimes.

  4. Is this a good idea, or a dangerous diversion?

    1. Great question. I lean toward dangerous diversion...like we need more distractions, eh?

  5. Totally weird. i hope ours does not do that as JG plays with what we do have far too much. Rural roads are pretty safe, except for the local deer and other idiots wandering on them. I once sat for quite a while waiting for a skunk to exit my route.
I love, however, silly computer games. I went all the way to the top of Lemmings, some while ago. But, my excuse, I had a bad back and was quite housebound.

    1. I can relate to your confession about silly computer games. I would also LOVE to see a skunk bound across this map, lol.

  9. Enough distractions on the road for me already. 54 miles a day commute is more than enough to hold my attention.

However, I think it would be a lot of fun to have your phone show you something like Frogger. Incorporate the traffic around you, maybe add in horns honking and gestures. I mean, if you're going to be distracted already, why not?

  10. My old Garmin GPS had this feature. It always made me want to collect as many coins as I could. Alas, the map didn't have any. Missed opportunity there!

  11. Sounds like you are enjoying it, but as Debra said... eyes on the road please! Technology is scary isn't it.... things happen unexpectedly.

  12. That looks like fun, but I would be afraid I would spend too much time watching it instead of the road.

  13. I would do the same thing. Looks like a video game too.
