Things that deserve the stink-eye (in a good way):

kiwi fruit. Yum.

Bonus: when peeled one might say they're giving Dr. Seuss vibes. Despite this fair assessment, I will eat them in a box, I will eat them with a fox, I will eat them here or there, I will eat them everywhere... because they're delicious. Not-so-bonus: unpeeled...well you already know what they resemble.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyhoo, I mention them because science says the exterior fuzz is just as nutritious as what's inside.

Therefore, dear friends, as Dr. Seuss might put it, do you nosh them with the skin or does that make your stomach spin?

  1. Like most fruit, the best nutrients and fibre are in the skin so don't peel it off! I find it's easier to eat the skin if the kiwi fruit is sliced into individual pieces to lessen the ratio of skin fuzz to juicy green interior.

    1. Smart. The YouTube recommends putting the peels in a smoothie. Clever, eh?

  2. Not a kiwi-lover here, but as I listened to an interview with Mayo Clinic cancer doc Dr. Musallen (something like that) on a Mel Robbins podcast, I learned that it's a potent cancer-fighter. That won't make me eat them, as there are other foodstuffs that do similar things. -Kate

  6. I like kiwi's but the fuzzy skin. I will not eat that. My husband ate a mango once and ran his teeth across the skin inside to get it all. Well he ended up in the ER. He had a reaction to the chemicals sprayed on the skin. He did not wash it first. At first they thought it was a mango allergy. Wild huh? No skin for me. Not even after it's washed. :-)

  7. Codex: Nope.
Science says carrots potatoes are most nutritious under the skin, where the veggie also filters pesticides and contaminants.
One panoramic less of nutrition for me.
*nanogram*. HOW DOES THAT AUTOINSERT EVEN RESEMBLE THE OTHER WORD?
*STINKEYE* IM NOT SCREAMING STOP IT, AI.

    2. Codex: Not advice. Just info. Someone told me about this a decade ago. Asked questions and was told not to because of what the skin keeps away from the fruit or vegetable. Margaret's experience doesn't surprise me. Yikes indeed. Plus they get handled and some gross stuff...

  10. I nibble the skin off then chomp down the fruit, but I like Debra's idea to slice them.

  11. I love kiwi, but honestly, didn't know the fuzzy skin was even edible. I'll just stick to splitting it in half and scooping out the flesh with a spoon, thank you very much.
