I miss when...

It doesn't look like much but I painted this for my son years ago one Christmas. It's him on the little snowmobile my Dad bought for him. He loves winter and all thing outdoors.

In the close-up below you might be able to discern a snowmobile and the orange helmet he wore then.

I miss when he was little and his head was little and life was just little things everyday, little moments, little challenges and little problems and Little House on the Prairie and Little Drummer Boy and little league and little Johnny jokes and The Little Engine that Could and Little Red Riding Hood and Little Tikes and little tricycles and little voices.

"When I grow up (as everyone does) what will become of the ME I was?"
-from the book Always Wondering by poet Aileen Fisher

Don't we all! When they grow up and and start becoming expensive liabilities, that's when we miss when they were little ... and innocent!

Nice painting. What a softie you are. Makes me want to relish my little ones more. One thing I know I will miss is when my 4 yr old comes and finds me for a snuggle each morning. I probably got about 2 more years of that... sigh.

I will give my little boy's heads a two handed rub before they go to school this morning.

That's a great painting and yeah, it's sad when they grow up, but it's also cool to see what you've helped them to become. Take pride.

I really like your painting. You captured perfectly that colour of winter sky! Like the whole composition of it.

Well, I get sentimental at times for when my people were at their littlest and then the image always changes to me sitting in the hospital with Jack when he had a throat infection and a 104 degree fever. Shudder. Things are getting better and better around here.

I actually think it looks really good. I wish I could paint.

How cool that you can paint.
I can too ([paint by numbers)

I loved this, because I TOO MISS WHEN
things were little (all your "little" comments were making me laugh)
When my kids were little, I was in control because I made their choices (for the most part)
then they grow up.......and have to make choices of their own.

And you hope that they'll remember the things you told them, when they were little.

This is a cool painting. I have a photo of my son when he was 18 months as my screen saver because he was so cute. He's 38 now and still cute, but not that kind of "little" cute.

I've been missing the 'little' years, too, lately dbs. Thanks for putting the missing into words.
And I love your painting - it's beautiful and peaceful. One day your son will hang it in a house of his own and his little one will point at it and you will smile, remembering again the time when he was little.

I love that you painted something so lovely for your kid. AndI hate that mine are growing faster than I authorized.

Wow, I love that painting, DBS. I miss when my kids were little, too. The older ones that is. I always knew where they were. On the other hand, still having a little one, a very energetic, verbal, extroverted, demanding little one....sometimes I find myself looking forward to him getting a little older. But then I remember how I miss the others at that age and it keeps everything in check. Clearly, you need to have another baby. Would you like to tell Mrs. DBS or should I:-)
