Character

Guess what this is.

I don't know why I find this contraption so awesome. It folds up and voila, it's a cane! It folds down and voila, it's a stool! It's ergonomicomical!

It assists with mobility issues and also provides a handy-dandy seat once you've finally shuffled to your destination. Yet it looks too rickety to perch on. Imagine this cane-seat thingamajig's backstory.

I think what makes this multi-functional design so intriguing for me is because it strongly suggests character. As an acting assignment, I'd love to design a character around this prop. I'm visualizing someone who wouldn't hesitate to use this doodad for an unintended function, like a weapon perhaps? or a crowd-disperser?

So who's the character? I think I have the perfect idea: meet Irene.

How utilitarian. But, I could really see an elderly disabled person, such as myself at times, getting hurt trying to sit or tripping over the seat apparatus even when folded up.

Just what I've been looking for. Standing all night can be a pain in the neck!

I think it would be much more useful if you switched out the seat part with a tambourine. I mean, you could still sit on a tambourine, but you can't play a stool. Or can you? Shit. Now I need a stool.

It wouldn't be pretty if I sat on that contraption.

Irene only wants it if it dispenses cigarettes.

At first glance I thought it was a pie-stand with a handle.

It's essentially a transformer for the elderly. Is there a walker-version...well I guess that would be a Rascal scooter.

I see a "Dr. Watson" type of stout British gentleman who says "What ho?" a lot. And with an entire lack of knowledge what "ho" means now.

I work with geriatric psych patients. I know this weapon well.

I'm with Munk on this one.

I have no idea why, but I can only picture Mr. Peanut.

Yep. The perfect place for pies.

I must be hungry. At first, I thought it was a cookie on a tin pan with a pretzel attached!
Stop by my blog tomorrow. You're getting a shout-out!

So need one of these when my wife drags me shopping. Why don't more stores have benches?

I sound old already.

Perfect! Irene would also be able to stub out her cigarettes on it.

Cool! Although I'm with Al Penwasser on this - I first thought the seat was a pie, and figured it was some sort of pie-holding devise. I probably like pie (especially apple ) a little too much.

It makes me think of pie.

Therefore, I like it.
