This is where I would return to and reside as long as I could.
I'm reading this book right now where a character has returned home to stay with her father for a while and during this time her father has an accident. On the way back from the hospital her father, usually quite distant, suddenly turns to her and asks, "if you could live in one of your memories, which one would you choose?" When he asks her this question her father doesn't know she's secretly heartbroken about something that recently happened.
Here's my point: sometimes serendipity brings people together just at the right time and then begins a process where interaction and reflection and the way we all conspire to make each other happy leads us exactly where we ourselves rarely know we need to go or opens up something within us we didn't even know was locked.

I believe this happens. I really do. At least sometimes.
Here's my question: if you could live in one of your memories, which one would you choose? And what would happen if you shared it?

When my wife and I hovered over a pee stick and saw what we wanted to. That was pretty sweet.
dbs-another happy-thought-provoking post.
Can't top paulsifer and the rest are TMIIPD (TMI in public domain).
There is a great Japanese movie called "Afterlife" (2000?) that asks exactly that question.
Oh man. I don't think I have an answer to this. At least not an immediate one. What a profound question!
Seemingly simple, but I'll be thinking about this for days.
@paulsifer42 I remember that time too. Very exciting (and terrifying).
@A&G Yeah. I know. I need to lighten up a bit. But I frequently like TMI in whatever form. (I was raised by introverts.)
@DM Yeah. It struck me too. No need to provide an answer. I only aim to get people to think.
:)
I meant I liked being reminded of great memories and many more....
Oh.Oh.Oh! Here's one I can share:
I watched an obese squirrel trying to scrabble up a slanted roof top. Scrabble. Slide. Scrabble. Slide. It would not give up. I'm so inspired.
A&G Ha! Dude. Get. A. Blog.
I would re-live the birth of my son. I know that sounds crazy, but I would share it with my husband. We only met three years ago, when my son was already 8, so my Husband missed all the bits before. Me being pregnant, being at the birth, watching him grow from a beautiful baby to the smart boy he is today. Now that we can't have any more children, I really wish I'd met my Husband back then, so he could have shared in those memories to. *sniff*
Ha - ingeniously thought provoking and perplexing. Do you mean simply revisit or live in without the option of return. There are many points I would like to revisit but few I would like to live in permanently as it would mean sacrificing other parts still to come which would perhaps be too painful to do.
Life isn't always good at the time but can often be so in retrospect - which makes return a bit risky.
No doubt I'm going to think about this for a while dbs.
I'll also be wondering why you asked the question but offered no hint of your own choice......
Very devious......
This TOTALLY happens. I mean, people floating in and out of your life when you need them.
Is it weird that I'd be too terrified to ever live in a memory? I would worry too much I might break it, ruin it. You know, drink too much vino and throw up all over it. I like them perfect and untouched in my happy place (and I don't mean that in a vagina way).
My initial response is that I would choose one of those after dinner moments where we are all sitting at the table at my in-laws' house and they start telling stories. They keep on until they are all laughing so hard that tears are streaming down their faces and it is the most beautiful, blissfully infectious laughter I have ever been near.
I just don't know if it gets better than that.
Such an interesting question... I can't think of any memory I prize above all others, that I would be content to live forever. But then I guess it depends - do I know I'm endlessly living in a memory or to me is it like I'm living it for the first time?
Hmmmmmm. There are some memories, some places, some times I would love to revisit, but I am not sure if I would want to share it with anyone else. Because THEY would view it differently, and it may not feel the same after sharing it.
For real A&G, get a blog!
Right before I proposed to my wife. Was an insane feeling...
Other than that... I don't know... maybe that huge dump I took after a week long bout of constipation. How's that for TMI?
Hahaha... but seriously, it would be proposing to my wife.
There are some moments I'd like to revisit. But ONLY to visit. As the saying goes: it's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I'm kind of curious as to what else life still has to throw at me.
I worry that I've lived wrongly. I can't think of a single memory in which I'd like to live. Nor one I'd even like to relive. I have good memories, but nothing yet that pulls on me to return. Maybe the best is yet to come? Or, maybe I'm living exactly rightly.
Very thought provoking question. So glad I finally found my way over here dbs.
There are many things in my life that have made it a rich and wonderful tapestry. There are moments that I'd like to revisit but not in first person, I wouldn't want to risk damaging it. I would want to stand by and see it and feel the emotions that go along with it, but I also think that I wouldn't want to stay there because of all the tomorrows I'd miss.
dbs & Paulsifer-Dudes! I'm trying, I'm trying. The blog is under reconstruction. Opening soon-ish.
Having problems with the images. Right now I've got a testblog with an image that takes years to scroll through. Who's got that kind of time?
It will make a happy memory as soon as I know what I'm doing.
Thanks to everyone for their amazing support and encouragement or telling me to get off theirs and get my own. I'm satisfied with either.
@alittlesprite If only we actually could go back, eh?
@Alistair I like how much thought you've put into this. My inspiration is just a family holiday two summers ago that just seemed absolutely right from start to finish. I think I'll keep the spot a secret though.
@ellylou "break it, ruin it" I like that. You make a good point. (And I think I'll refrain from touching on the rest of your comment, no pun intended.)
@boyfriendwhisperer I can relate.
@Megan Good question.
@Auntof14 I understand. Because you just did. (And they're still safe.)
@KevD. I remember my own proposal heart-rate too. And dude. TMI is probably what blogging is all about.
@VinnyC Good reminder to live in the present.
@Nicole You always make me think.
@STT Smart. It would be wrong to miss the tomorrows.
@A&G You're welcome. No pressure intended though. You do what makes you happy.
I'm late as usual, but I needed to tell you how perfect the following words were to describe a recent situation of mine. Thanks for another great post.

Thank you for saying that Jono.
so many to choose from but probably as a youngster when my folks were still together & cheated on several occasions playing monopoly with the whole family.
just as well i didn't go into banking as a profession, eh.
@tim I like your answer. A lot.
