Wordfuse (Valentine's Day Edition)

acrimatrimonious (adjective): acrimonious + matrimony = a word used to describe the unfriendly goings-on that will likely occur if those of us who are married fail to take advantage of the opportunity to provide a token of love to our significant others this fast-approaching February 14. Ditto for birthdays, anniversaries and so on.

*Derived from the Latin dogeus houseus; aka a quick way to incite strestrogen.

i've always thought valentine's day was a sham. when i was single, people thought i was just jealous or bitter, but really i hate it just as much when i'm in a relationship. seems contrived. i prefer my romance to be spontaneous, not dictated by hallmark.

I like Valentines day. :) I am going to make pink pancakes.

I was thinking a simple token of oral affection would be suffice. You mean I have to go and actually buy shit?

@manders Good sentiment.
@Chelle Nice.
@Sandra Whoa. No purchase necessary.

I believe the best tokens are valued the least. For example, the best gift for such a day is probably a kind word, but no doubt most would view that as not very valuable.

valetimercialized. Valentines + Commercialized. Squared. Happy? Not so much. But I'll still take that bag of Hershey's kisses, thank you very much, and use them to treat my PMS. My spouse and children will be safe from my wrath for another month and we'll all live happily ever after. Until next month.

I'm both thrilled to get VD gifts (herpes excluded) and totally spastic and uncomfortable accepting them. I don't really care about getting anything on Valentine's. But i do sometimes daydream about a splashy display: Big bouquets, romantic dinners, giant box of chocolate, an evening without kids. But in the face of gift-giving, I'm never sure how to act. To this day, in my history of gift-getting, I was simultaneously happiest and most uncomfortable when I was proposed to 10 years ago.

I prescribe a dozen roses, heart-shaped box of chocolates and jewellry. Mrs. Stew deserves nothing less.

Make something.

@LoC I agree with everything you say, but my wife likes presents too.
@The C'sC: I really enjoy your witty, rambling, honest comments. Thanks.
@Nicole Great comment. I can completely relate to feeling awkward and thrilled at the same time. I am Canadian.
@DSWS So true. She does deserve it.

Mr. Gaelic and I don't do Valentine's Day anymore. Why celebrate our love on Februaury 14th with cards, flowers, candies, whatever? We celebrate our love every day with bringing each other a cup of coffee, folding the comics page so the sudoku is ready to do, and warming up the towels while the other is in the shower. It's the everyday little things, not the once-a-year forced gestures that are Valentines for me. But I'm weird.

#TGW You're not weird. That's exactly the way to do it.

@AC I made supper tonight. Thanks for the reminder.
