For years now, I've been telling people that when I grow old enough to be a grandpa, I'm going to wear a tam like my own Scottish grandpa did. Finally (FI.NAL.LY) I blathered this to the right person, a person who cared enough to school me instead of just laughing at me behind my back like I realize now countless others did, because when I shared my "tam plan," puzzled, she said, "Really? A tam? Are you sure?"
So we googled it and then we laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. Apparently, my grandfather wore a flat-cap and that's good because there's something poetic about the fact that I will eventually be an old-guy ass-hat wearing a flat-cap.

My wife wants me to get a flat hat. She thinks they look stylish (especially when properly coordinated with a fitted shirt, jeans & square-tip shoes). That's just WAY too much "fashion" for my tastes so I've been putting up a fight.
Still, what's stopping you from going with the tam? Maybe alternate between the two.
David, I so want to see you wearing that tam. It will provide amusement wherever you go.
I wore a flat cap in university 40 years ago when I was going through a butch phase, but a tam? NEVER!!!!!
Tam hats feel a tiny bit awkward to me guy.
