You & me both. I often try heating the knife over the stove but that usually melts the butter too fast & turns it into a liquid that just soaks into the bread. Of course, I could always take it out in advance to soften but buttering bread is often a spontaneous act. As for that "spreadable butter", it's not natural. Who knows what's in there?
