For what it's worth, dear friend, I always boil my water in the micro first and then add the oats. In addition to preventing such explosions, it leaves the oats with a better texture. Here's hoping Tuesday brings better luck!
Little insight into how my mind works: I would have grumbled "Damn!" Then, removed the glass from the microwave and scraped up the oatmeal with a spoon.

Hahahaha, been there, done that. I always put a paper towel over the top of the bowl now. But I think I'll try Mel's method too -- sounds good.

Oh, dbs. Drat. This used to happen to me all the time. Now I cook my porridge slooowwwly on the stove-top in a deep-sided saucepan. Less mess! ; )
