Or maybe it's like the shoe brand. You know, Toms, as in plural individuals, all by the name of Tom. Not that the creek actually belonged to Tom, or a gaggle of Toms, but just a name, with an 's', but not more than one. :)
Personally I like apostrophes very much but I say Death! Death! to the comma.
Poor sign punctuation makes my brain hurt.
