umm... kudos to him for making such an invention, but i'd recommend keeping it away from flammable surfaces. maybe make him keep it on a tile coaster at all times.
Anything that improves the listening experience is worth it. (It might be worth cleaning up the tape a using proper electrical tape. Even if it's just for looks.)
