Wordfuse (golf-edition)

“Did that go in? I wasn’t watching...."
Happy Gilmore & also me
fairway + wayward = fairwayward (adj) If you golf, the definition is obvious. Sigh.

Once weekly yearly I golf, and yet I'm still shite. It's shocking because I'm a sporty guy. By sporty I mean I'm a good sport, but I can't do any actual sports.

Sports I've tried: skiing and cornhole.

Sports I like: skiing, walking, floating, lifting rocks to examine what's underneath. Sure, only one of these is deemed an official sport but let's be honest, that sounds symptomatic of a poor imagination. Isn't picking saskatoons a kind of sport? Snowmobiling? Reading? Painting? Lawn-mowing? Surviving Winter? Not to brag, but I excel at these. 😜

What do you "excel" at?

  1. I’m sure you’re a good sport even if not so good at sport. I really excel at nothing, but in sport, I may have been somewhat above average is racket sports and those that required good hand-eye coordination.

    1. Being a good sport is the real flex, right?

  2. Are you going to try out for Canada's Olympic Cornhole Team?

  3. I excell at jumping to conclusions:) I'm not sporty either, although I was a race walker in my forties, where I found out how competitive I am (very). Walking is always my go to, and the aforementioned jumping.

    1. Nice one. However, race-walking does sound impressive.

  4. I'm a decent bowler sometimes. And I'm okay at horseshoes, though oddly, that prowess did not transfer over to cornhole.

    1. Ha, maybe cornhole should use iron bean bags?

  5. Codex: Ever played field hockey on a golf course? Highly recommend.

    1. This sounds like an interesting story...a blog post, perhaps?

    2. Codex: We need bigger holes on the golf course, don't we?

  6. ...I don't enjoy doing things unless I can do them well. Golf has never been one of my accomplishments!

  7. I am not good at any sport! Not a one. (Not that I've tried many; would belly-dancing count? I've tried that, loved it, didn't stick with it. I'd take tap-dancing lessons -- how fun would that be! - if only they didnt insist you perform at some point.
Screw that. ).The image of you rock-lifting made me laugh out loud though.

  8. If you don't do an activity regularly you'll never get good at it, but if said activity doesn't interest you it won't get onto your regular schedule.

  9. I excel at avoiding playing sports, although I did play a lot of tennis in my younger days, and now I play snooker with two elderly gentlemen every Tuesday afternoon. I lose a lot.

    1. Ha. Clever. That seems like a worthwhile pursuit.

  10. I have yet to find a talent. So I'm good at nothing. Wait - I'm great at sitting & reading with a coffee or wine, does that count as a sport?
