Those kinds of hands.

hands-on (adjective) involving active participation; applied as opposed to theoretical:
My 14-year-old son takes on Eric Clapton's (!!!) Tears in Heaven.
(I apologize for the dishwasher noise in the background. I'm an idiot.)

These are my son's hands. His hands are like my Dads. Not so much in the way they look but in all they seem to be able to do. I always longed for strong hands that could build what my Dad could, fix what my Dad could, create what my Dad could. Some people just have those kinds of hands. Like my son (it skipped a generation I guess). Although my son and I are different this way, I made sure my kids love the Arts. So even my Dad couldn't do this.

  1. Not bad. I know- as a teacher - that the arts are becoming more and more ignored.

  12. Your kids are so freakin talented. And I totally know what you mean about strong hands. The strongest thing my hands do is type... or lift heavy books. No, we'll stick with typing. My dad, like yours (surprise, surprise) can fix anything. If I need help, it's him I call. I hope the skipping a generation is true, then I'll have a good helper in the future.

  13. Hands are great. Years ago, my karate teacher's teacher came to teach us. He made the class do sets of push-ups for 90 minutes. Brutal. Some sort of lesson about perseverance I guess. Anyway, this chain-smoking little man, 5'4", didn't look like he could punch his way through pudding skin. Until he made a fist. He did all the push-ups with fists. When he clenched his mitts his hands grew to the size of hams. Amazing hands hands that could probably knock out a buffalo.

  14. I was at my desk the other day, and saw my dad reaching for something. Then I realized it was the back of my hands. I now have my dad's hands.

@michael Push-ups with fists! That's impressive. And painful I bet.
@TT I know just how you feel. I see so much of my Dad in the mirror now that sometimes it startles me.
