My daughter has been singing since she could talk. Her singing has a remarkable effect on me. There's that line from Othello, "O, she will sing the savageness out of a bear." I believe music, and all artforms, makes us suddenly more sweetly alive, suddenly separated from the day's ordinary-ness, the day's difficulties. Life just slips away. And it's doubly, doubly so when listening to someone you love sing, sing, sing....

ReplyDeleteI wish my girls were as proud of my singing as you are of your girl. But Oh No! As soon as I start belting out songs about potty, cooking dinner and wanting to be Amish, they get all, "Moooommmmmm! Please Stop!!" They just don't appreciate my insane burst-into-a-song Rodgers and Hammerstein talent.

The first time I heard her sing, I think she was 9 and it made me cry. I am not a sappy human being and it made me cry. She is so very talented. In my opinion, the most talented person coming out of Mtown.
