Why do you need shoulder pads?
I know nothing about fashion but, um, as a guy, I wish I could actually verbalize these thoughts, and in the kindest way possible, suggest that unless you are linebacker, or you are time-traveling to the 1980s, there is absolutely no need to waste your money on these.
And another thing, who knew these actually still existed?

Many women's blouses still have shoulder pads, just not the big huge ones that were popular in the 80s. They give definition to the shoulder area and help the blouse hang better on your frame.
Ah, maybe she's making her husband a suit. Could be, you know, it's a real possibility.
As DSWS says, we gals still have them but they're not those linebacker ones. Trust me, I remember those.
In fact, I was going through a box of sewing stuff of my mom's (a couturier in her day) and was amazed at the shoulder pads - all shapes and sizes. I can't wait to bring them back in fashion!
As to that lady, maybe she got my memo… could be, you never know how word travels.

The bigger ones were Maxi-Pads and they...oh, I just can't go on with this comments. It's getting a little...ewwwww.
