At least for a while.

I cleaned my almost grown son's room:

dinky toys
balls
pencils sharpened down to a cm
marbles
rocks
cords
candy wrappers
lego
pennies
tools
elastics
bebes
bottle caps
batteries

The whole room was a junk drawer.

I couldn't let everything go, even stuff he wanted to let go of. I need it still. At least for a while.

I suspect letting go of childhood must as hard for the parent as it is for the child.

You kept the legos, didn't you? I'd totally keep the legos. And not just for sentimental reasons.

I'm a keeper of things I deem nostalgic. I have a tough time with things I remember my kids playing with when they were as they grew.

My wife is in a constant battle to wean me of that.

Aw, you are sentimental? I'm not.I'm too much the other way, tossing things left and right....and then when someone asks where something went...I make a hasty exit.

I'm seriously terrified for this day. I watched the tv series Glee and when the kids moved out of their parents' houses I cried. Not because the show was touching, but because I knew my daughter would leave one day. I don't envy you at all.
